Empowering the Next Generation: My Day with Vital Voices and 50 Inspiring High School Girls
Share

Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to volunteer with Vital Voices, an organization that champions the leadership potential of women and girls around the world. I was invited to lead journaling sessions with 50 high school girls from Washington, DC—an experience that left me deeply moved, inspired, and more hopeful than ever about the future these young women are shaping.
Using my own journals, I guided the girls through reflective prompts designed to spark self-awareness, emotional clarity, and goal-setting. What unfolded was nothing short of magical. The room buzzed with energy as they opened up, shared insights, and leaned into the power of their own voices. Many had never journaled before, but by the end of our time together, they were eager to make it a daily habit.

Beyond the journaling sessions, I had the privilege of mentoring two smaller groups of girls. These conversations were electric—full of curiosity, ambition, and vulnerability. They asked thoughtful questions about our professional paths: How did we know what we wanted to do? What challenges did we face? What advice would we give our younger selves? Their hunger for growth and their belief in their own potential was palpable. It reminded me that mentorship isn’t just about giving answers—it’s about holding space for dreams to take shape.
Vital Voices created that space. Their programming doesn’t just teach leadership—it embodies it. They cultivate environments where girls feel seen, heard, and empowered to lead with authenticity. Watching these young women light up as they connected with each other, with mentors, and with their own inner wisdom was a testament to the transformative power of intentional support.
I left the day feeling invigorated. These girls are passionate, driven, and ready to make waves. And Vital Voices is giving them the tools, the community, and the confidence to do just that.
To anyone who believes in the power of women’s leadership: support organizations like Vital Voices. Mentor a young person. Share your story. You never know whose spark you might ignite.
